The benefits

A conventional loan lets you spread the payment of your vehicle and enter it on your company’s balance sheet.

Simplicity and flexibility

A conventional loan is a financing solution that lets you decide how much you want to finance and over what period you want to spread your payments. If you have available cash, you can also make an initial down payment.

A conventional loan lets you spread the cost of your vehicle and maintain your cash position.

Own you own vehicle or fleet.

With a conventional loan, you immediately take possession of your vehicle, which is entered on your company’s balance sheet.

On the other hand, you are responsible for:

  • vehicle maintenance, unless you opt for a maintenance contract
  • selling the vehicle later on and the risk incurred with its residual value.

A positive tax impact

When you opt for a conventional loan to pay for your company vehicle, you:

  • can record the interest payments and amortization as expenses and thereby reduce your taxes
  • recover VAT on commercial and passenger vehicles if you are liable.
  • Corporate vehicle taxation: we are here to help

When you entrust your vehicle fleet management and maintenance to our professionals, you benefit from:

  • financial and accounting advantages: you retain control over your management costs and sign a flexible, adaptable contract
  • a single point-of-contact responsible for your fleet

We offer two Fleet Management options:

  • our Actifleet solution: a monthly management package giving access to an array of additional optional services
  • our  asset management solution: especially for Key Account customers who are looking for advice to manage their fleet in return for a monthly fee, invoiced at the actual cost of the operations involved

2015 tax measures

Every year, our tax experts provide information on the main changes to the finance law affecting vehicles.

Value Added Tax (VAT) on company vehicles

VAT on company vehicles is a general tax on consumption. It applies to goods and services and is paid by the end customer.

Vehicle sales and rental transactions for passenger and commercial vehicles are taxed at the normal rate of 20%, just like the related services and rental payments received.

For professionals, some vehicles enable a reduction:

  • commercial vehicles purchased or hired
  • passenger cars to be sold on as new (dealership or demonstration vehicles)
  • passenger cars used for transport activities (taxis or ambulances), driving schools, short-term rental and funeral services.

Tax on company cars

Tax on company cars is paid yearly by all legal entities or companies that own or use passenger cars.

This excludes:

  • commercial and industrial vehicles
  • zero-emissions vehicles
  • passenger cars over ten years old
  • taxis, ambulances and driving schools.

The tax is only payable if the rental or ownership of the vehicle exceeds one calendar month or thirty consecutive days within a tax year. The amount of tax payable on company cars depends on CO2 emissions and the type of fuel used (petrol or diesel).

Benefits in kind

Private use of a vehicle provided to an employee is a benefit in kind. Depending on the employer’s choice, it can provided on the basis of the expenses actually incurred or an annual set rate.

Look at our summary table below to find out more about how to assess the benefit in kind for rental vehicles.

Option 1: if the fuel used for the employee’s private travel is not covered by the employer
Actual valuation Set-rate valuation
Overall annual cost of rental, insurance and maintenance costs to which is applied the percentage of mileage covered for private use 30% of the overall annual cost of rental with maintenance and insurance (limited to 9% of the vehicle’s purchase price)
Option 2: if the fuel used for the employee’s private travel is covered by the employer
Actual valuation
Set-rate valuation
Overall annual cost of rental, insurance and maintenance costs to which is applied the percentage of mileage covered for private use + fuel costs for private use covered by the employer 30% of the overall annual cost of rental with maintenance and insurance (limited to 9% of the vehicle’s purchase price) OR AS AN OPTION 40% of the overall annual cost including rental, maintenance, insurance and fuel used for professional and personal use (limited to 12% of the vehicle’s purchase price)

Non-deductible rental payments – non-deductible amortization

The limit on passenger vehicle amortization concerns all companies and independent professionals subject to income tax or corporate tax. Post-1st January 2006, there are two distinct upper limits for passenger vehicle amortization. The limits are applicable depending on date of vehicle purchase and its CO₂ emissions.

The limit for deductibility of amortization stands at €9,900 for the following vehicles:

  • vehicles registered on 1st January 2006 and those registered after 1st June 2004 having been issued a new registration document after 1st January 2006,
  • vehicles emitting more than 200g/km CO₂.

  • vehicles registered on 1st January 2006 and those registered after 1st June 2004 having been issued a new registration document after 1st January 2006,
  • vehicles emitting less than 201g/km CO₂.
